Point breakdown:

  • First-10 Points
  • Second-7 Points
  • Third- 5 Points
  • Fourth and Fifth- 3 Points Each
  • Still Gorgeous- 1 Point Each

So without further ado, here’s the week’s best!

5. Hawkeye 17 by David Aja (Featured Image)

David Aja is easily one of the most talented artists in Marvel’s stable. As if his interior work were not enough to prove this, he continues to create instantly memorable covers such as this. Here, Hawkeye appears simply in a medium shot, facing front. However, his head has been replaced by a television. The simple concept works here, making readers curious about what happens in the book itself while also letting them know that maybe Hawkeye’s head isn’t in the right place, metaphorically speaking of course.

We the Nerdy Captain Marvel 1 John Cassaday

4. Captain Marvel 1 by John Cassaday

One of the best ways to elevate a character is to have top-notch talent involved in created the product. John Cassaday has made himself known in the comic book industry with being tied to incredible projects. His simple projection of Captain Marvel highlights the power of the character. She effortlessly guides herself through space, ready to embark on an adventure. By projecting the image from beneath her, with Carol’s body gliding downwards, we as the reader gain a sense of the atmosphere of space. It is to the point and powerful and establishes Carol’s presence in the pantheon of Marvel characters.

We the Nerdy Regular Show Skips 5 Jimmy Giegerich

3. Regular Show Skips 5 by Jimmy Giegerich

While our first two covers were more serious and disconcerting, Regular Show Skips 5 is just fun. Jimmy Giegerich gives us a cut-away of Skips, which is disturbing in itself. However, his puzzled face makes the image endearing, and we can’t help but laugh. The different body parts are all appropriately labeled too… in a different language. By labeling the image like this, it becomes foreign and perplexing, daring readers to delve into the mad adventures of this wonderful character.

We the Nerdy Secret Avengers 1 Tradd Moore

2. Secret Avengers 1 by Tradd Moore

Tradd Moore is a peculiar artist. When I first saw his work, he seemed to fall in line with many others in the industry, but left me impressed nonetheless. Now I see how wrong I was, as Moore has a style truly all his own. His cover for Secret Avengers is not what you would expect for the book. It’s fun and wacky, and makes the leads look goofy. These aren’t hardened S.H.I.E.L.D. Agents, these are comical superheroes out for a gas. As if their bizarre faces weren’t enough, the background harkens back to the old Nick Fury comics of Jim Steranko. Stylized backgrounds elevated those covers, and continue to do so here. And don’t neglect the wandering eye of Nick Fury Jr., who is definitely not amused at this scene.

We the Nerdy Deadpool 25 Mark Brooks

1. Deadpool 25.NOW by Mark Brooks

Everybody loves Deadpool, right? I mean, what’s not to love about a homicidal maniac covered in tumors who likes to talk to himself? Nothing, that’s right. To celebrate how beloved Deadpool is, Mark Brooks has Deadpool perform a one-man band with Mr. Wilson himself. He marches down the street, clearly involved in himself. He doesn’t acknowledge the audience, but he does address the comic. He knows this is a celebration of him. His jovial stance and the musculature make him look great in of himself, but by adding in the scenery, banner, and frame (Reminiscent of American prestige), Deadpool and Mark Brooks go above and beyond to make one fine cover.

Still Gorgeous:

  • Captain Marvel 1 by David Lopez
  • X-Men Legacy 300 by Clay Mann
  • Avengers Undercover 1 by Mark Brooks
  • Batman 29 by Greg Capullo
  • Judge Dredd 17 by Nelson Daniel
