E3 ANNOUNCEMENT: Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare Gameplay

Microsoft

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare

Activision

November 4, 2014

Microsoft opened its conference with a live gamepaly demo of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare. The latest installment of the franchise is set in the future, which means we got to see some new and innovative weapons and equipment. Phil Spencer also announced that downloadable content and other features will be made available on the Xbox One first.

The footage gave us a glimpse of what to expect from the mechanics of the game, with characters being able to double jump with their exoskeleton suits. Additionally, a larger figure in a more armored suit casually strolls by as you join up with your squad during the chaos, although we don’t see him in action or know if he is a playable element of the game. A plethora of vehicles, both big and small, were also highlighted, although they were mainly background visuals as we didn’t see them engage the action. Finally, the highlight of the futuristic elements was the use of the grenades. The demo showed the ability to cycle through different grenade types seamlessly, while also demonstrating the different modes available, including a grenade that shows enemy positioning within its blast radius, and a grenade that launches into the air and tracks any enemy target nearby.

The footage we saw was enough to give us an idea of how the game will be played, and it truly seemed different to what we’ve been accustomed to primarily because the mechanics seem to be slightly augmented by the exoskeleton factor. Hopefully we will learn more about this game soon, and will get to see a larger sample size of what to expect.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare will be released on November 4, 2014 on Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
