When people told Capcom they wanted a dinosaur game, they meant a remake/reboot of Dino Crisis. Instead, Capcom heard “A multiplayer third person shooter with dinosaurs!” The result is Exoprimal, and to be fair, it’s not a bad game. The more you play, the more story you unlock. Unfortunately, to get to the surprises, you need to play so many missions, and repetition creeps in. A lot of players may end up getting bored and not see all the game has to offer, but for those who enjoy multiplayer shooters, especially with friends, may find a lot to like here.

PROS
Three types of classes to choose from (Assault, Tank, and Support)
Nice amount of customization
Decent story that unfolds the more you play
Decent amount of dinosaurs to fight
Tight controls
Fun with friends and better in short bursts of gameplay
Good visuals and voice cast

CONS
Repetitive gameplay
Too many matches needed to unlock something new
Camera not always the best
No single player content
Playing with randoms can be chaotic
Some long load times

All in all, Exoprimal can be a fun game, but due to its repetitive nature, may be better in short bursts rather than an extended time. The different classes are nice, and most should find a suit to fit their individual play styles. Unfortunately, your experience points only apply to the suit you use in the matches, so if you want to level up across the board you’ll need to change up often. The dinosaurs are nicely rendered, but it can take too long to see something new. If multiplayer shooters are your thing, Exoprimal is worth checking out. For those who want a single player campaign, it may be more of a pass, though the story it tells is nicely done. It’s not the dinosaur game we wanted from Capcom, but it’s the one we got, and fortunately it can be fun.
