Forza Motorsport Quick Time Review

Developer: Turn 10 Studios

Publisher: Xbox Game Studios

Release date: October 10, 2023

Available on: PC, Xbox Series X/S (reviewed on Series S)

Serving as a reboot of sorts, Forza Motorsport returns to the more focused series of car racing, having last been seen in 2017 with Forza Motorsport 7. The game is solid and very accessible to both newcomers and veterans. The options for assists allow gamers of all skill levels to jump in and have fun, as those who want a more arcadey experience can have that and those that prefer more of a sim can set things to their liking. While smaller in the amount of cars at launch in comparison to former titles as well as tracks, that which is there gives plenty to choose from. Career mode is nice and robust, with multiple tiers of tours and events to complete. Multiplayer is also well done, and getting into races works well. Rivals makes a return, and the free racing mode has two versions, one with quick options to get you racing quickly, and one with more advanced options. Private multiplayer is lacking split screen at launch, though it’s reportedly coming later in an update. The RPG-like progression system is sure to divide players. Some will like that you need to level up each vehicle with use, allowing to form an attachment to your cars. Others will bemoan the fact that it takes more time to unlock update options in a specific order. There is a nice amount of customization for both cars and drivers, and the free racing allows you to drive in varied conditions, from sunshine to a thunderstorm. Turn 10 has promised more updates, and those wanting to experience the Forza series can do so through Game Pass.

Updates for cars can take time to unlock

No split screen for private multiplayer

The thirteenth installment of the series overall, Forza Motorsport serves as a reboot of sorts for the racing focused side of the franchise, as opposed to the open world focus on races and stunts of the Forza Horizon titles. It’s a solid game, and though it has only 500 cars and 20 tracks at launch (less than both Forza Motorsport 7 and Forza Horizon 5), it’s still a nic amount to choose from. With assists making control accessible to all skill levels of players and its robust modes, Forza Motorsport is an excellent return to form for the Xbox’s signature racing series.
