One day after getting a glimpse of an alien from Star Wars: Episode VII, news has been released that Gareth Edwards, director of the recently released Godzilla, will be directing a Star Wars spin-off film.
“Ever since I saw Star Wars I knew exactly what I wanted to do for the rest of my life — join the Rebel Alliance! I could not be more excited & honored to go on this mission with Lucasfilm,” Edward said in a press release from Disney and Lucasfilm.
Gary Whitta has been tapped to write the screenplay for the movie, which will be released December 16, 2016. Whitta is most well-known for the phenomenal Denzel Washington film, the Book of Eli, but he also wrote the screenplay for After Earth and worked with Telltale Games on The Walking Dead.
J.J. Abrams is currently working on Star Wars: Episode VII, set to release December 18, 2015.
