Gareth Edwards will be a busy man for the foreseeable future; not only has he agreed to direct the Star Wars spinoff, he has also reportedly agreed to direct the upcoming Godzilla sequels. Legendary Pictures CEO Thomas Tull had this to say about the director:
“Gareth’s filmmaking talent makes him one of his generation’s most creative and visionary directors. The plan has always been for Gareth to direct a different film before we started on another ‘Godzilla,’ but who knew it would be a ‘Star Wars’ installment? We have a great plan in store for ‘Godzilla’ fans and I am looking forward to seeing Gareth’s imprint on the ‘Star Wars’ universe.”
Gareth’s Godzilla has grossed over $100 million in North America alone. His success with Godzilla was definitely the reason for this announcement, and it comes as no surprise that Legendary rushed to sign a trilogy deal with him. It will be interesting to see what he comes up with, for the Godzilla 2 and 3.
