There are those that hate this series and there are those that love it and can’t get enough of it. I am definitely in the latter. There were times in this issue where I actually laughed out loud and I haven’t done that with a comic book in a long time.
This series is pure mad and it is only natural therefore to have Deadpool turn up as the mad attracts the mad. It’s just pure silly for the most part, but it is quite hilarious. At one point it did feel there were enough of the conversations between Deadpool and Kot, but overall it was just great fun.
Was there a plot to this issue, I truly can’t remember, I know there was something about the friendly bomb and whether it was linked to the Chinese equivalent of SHIELD. But apart from that I don’t really remember it for anything else than the Deadpool and Hawkeye show. OH, I do remember one other plot element and that was Phil Coulson on the run in drag. I think that was the point that really made me laugh out loud. All joking aside though, this issue despite all the attention on Deadpool did follow-up on the Maria Hill storyline and the continued unknown fate of Nick Fury JR. But Deadpool was the star of the show.
If Duggan thinks his new work on Hulk is too much and he needs to give up a book, can I suggest he drops Deadpool and gives it to Kot. I really though Kot wrote Deadpool to a tee and it is some of the best Deadpool dialogue I have read in a long time.
Once again the art on this issue is great. Michael Walsh is doing a fantastic job creating a really coherent Marvel Universe for Kot. The tiniest of details that we see are fantastic and he does a great job on every character he draws. The scene with Spider-Woman being all emotional was captured magnificently by Walsh and really evoked the feeling of frustration and anger that she had. It is some really impressive stuff we are seeing and fits perfectly in line with Kot’s tone.
I loved this! It’s another great issue in what is turning out to be a fantastic run on an Avengers book that is really needed. The appearance of Deadpool brings another dimension to this series and Kot clearly let his madness just roll right through and allowed the craziness to stand out yet not overwhelm the issue. I really appreciate Kot’s ability to keep on changing the pace issue to issue and despite the lack of crazy action in this series the dialogue, story, and visuals were all fantastic and made for a really great fun read. Kot & Walsh on Deadpool anyone? Please make it happen!!
I like Gerry and Brain better because they also provide good laughs while at the same time actually give depth to the character
