Best Supporting Actress winner Lupita Nyong’o, and Game of Thrones actress Gwendoline Christie have both been cast in the upcoming Star Wars Episode VII. Principle Photography has already begun on the film, scheduled for a December 2015 release date. Nyong’o landed the role of Patsy in 12 Years A Slave as her first role out of Yale drama school, she also had a small role in the recent Liam Neeson film Non-Stop. Rumors have circulated for months that Nyong’o was being considered for a role in the JJ Abrams helmed continuation of the Star Wars saga; we now know those rumors were true.
Christie, the 6′ 3″ British actress, is most well known for her role as the female knight Brienne of Tarth in Game of Thrones. Christie also has an upcoming role in the final movies in the Hunger Games franchise, Mocking Jay Parts 1 & 2.
No word yet on the characters they will be playing, but they join an already impressive cast of young talent. The cast includes Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, and Carrie Fisher all reprising their respective Star Wars roles; as well as Oscaar Isaacs, John Boyega, Adam Driver, Andy Serkis, Daisy Ridley, Max Von Sydow, Domhnall Gleeson, Peter Mayhew, Kenny Baker, and Anthony Daniels.
