Super Sons #7 Review

Written by: Peter Tomasi

Art by: Jorge Jimenez

Published by: DC Comics

Super Sons continues to be as fun as ever, never missing a beat!

It is clearly evident that Tomasi loves writing Super Boy and Damian, and that Jimenez loves drawing them. It is so rare to see so much joy come off the page. Super Sons has found the right tone in trying to be a Saturday Morning Cartoon put to page. And it is succeeding.

Issue #7 continues straight after the ending of Super Sons #6 in which a very drastic transformation took place. Jon and the Titans are playing into it expertly, without it being mean, which is a calling card of the series. This type of humor continues through the book, not taking itself too seriously or getting too dark.

Jimenez style continues to fit this book perfectly. So many panels here just pop off the page, specifically because of Jimenez, especially when the rest of the Titans tell Jon that he is welcome to their club whenever he wants. The childlike glee on his face is one of the coolest things this book has produced so far, especially since Jon has always wanted to prove himself in the eyes of his peers.

Super Sons is not here to really provide some epic fight scenes, and even though we get some nice action, Jimenez never allows that to be the focus. The relationships between the characters are always more important than the action.

Super Sons continues to be one of the most fun books on shelves right now, encompassing exactly what comic books should be: action, humor, interesting characters, and an overall sense of fun.
