STK644004Robin Rises Omega #1

Written by: Peter J. Tomasi

Publisher: DC

I have really been digging Tomasi’s run on Batman & Robin. The last few months have been really interesting seeing Batman team up with a different member of the DC universe each month on the hunt for Ra’s Al Ghul and stopping him dig up Damian (and Talia). Batman & Ra’s Al Ghul #32 really was the climax of a great run which started with the masterpiece dialogue-free #18. We really saw Batman truly unhinged in #32 and it all led to this, Robin Rising. There has been a lot of speculation as to who the next Robin will be or if Damian will rise and retake the mantel. This story is going to kick off this next phase in the Tomasi story and is therefore a great jumping on point, however we won’t know who the new Robin is until December apparently.

This series has been one of the best new on-going series in 2014. It’s hard to pin down what makes it so likeable, but it definitely has something to do with the likeability of the main character and also the writer’s knowledge of the culture. Last issues final page was to put it mildly, shockingly surprising, and I really am looking forward to seeing where this is going. There is a new artist on the book for this issue so it will be interesting to see what he brings and what affect it has on the book as I feel the art has been one of the strongest parts about the series so far. There is also an appearance from Wolverine apparently, so that should be reason to pick this up alone, no?!?!?

24_04-cvrA24: Underground #4

Written by: Ed Brisson

Art by: Michael Gaydos

Publisher: IDW

This series has been surprisingly fun so far. It is really true to the TV series and is by far the best 24 comic to date. I have really been loving the fact that it is so true to the TV series, it brings a genuine excitement to reading it because you feel you know the characters already. The storyline has been classic 24 stuff so far too, Jack has been laying low in the Ukraine with his girlfriend Sofiya, under the alias of Borys and is living a relatively happy life until he tries to help out Sofiya’s brother who is in trouble with the mob, but his cover is blown when he is recognised by one of the gangster boss. While all this is going on, the stealing of the truck has drawn the attention of the CIA who have now started a manhunt for him. The mob has his girlfriend because Jack had to choose between taking her or Sofiya’s brothers family into hiding. However, what Jack doesn’t know is Sofiya managed to escape the mob, so they do not have any leverage, but will they let Jack find this out, and will the CIA catch up to him??? Who knows but if stays true to the TV series I am sure we won’t find out for a while! But don’t let that hold you back from reading this, Brisson and Gaydos are doing a great job on this book.

Which books are you looking forward to this Wednesday, let us know in the comments……
