I really enjoyed the first issue of this celebratory crossover! Most of the time two huge properties doing a crossover is simply not good and is just happening to sell some comics, but this special event is the exception so far. The first issue had loads of mystery and some really fun intriguing elements that I am looking forward to going on this journey. So just go pick this up!

Due to delays, it’s been quite a while since the last issue of Secret Wars. When we last left the series, Reed and Doom had finally meet and we established the lines along which conflict will be drawn. It’s been a slow burn so far, but tensions have been building at a perfect pace and last issue was only the beginning of the pay-off. Most Marvel events usually peter out in the second half, but with Hickman at the wheel, Secret Wars is sure to be the exception. Even with the delay this series has been movingly along steadily getting better as it goes, and the delay has allowed us to enjoy more of the gorgeous art of Esad Ribic, who has given this event a fantastic feel and scope. If you’re a Marvel fan, you need to be reading this event.

Greg Pak and Aaron Kuder have been killing it on Action Comics for a while now, but with issue #41 they raised their games even further and have changed a great book into arguably the best one on the stands right now. Under their guidance, Superman has had his identity leaked, his powers sapped, and his life flipped upside down. Yet in providing him with these challenges Pak and Kuder have effectively stripped Superman down to the bone and have tapped into the spirit of Superman, effectively illustrating what makes him one of, if not the, greatest literary icons in the world today. Their current arc is called truth and the simple truth is that Action Comics is a book that deserves a place on your pull list right now.

After a short break I, for one, am more than ready for the conclusion to the first arc of this fantastic story. With the big game changing reveal at the end of last issue I’m really excited to see what we will learn as it draws to a close. If you haven’t been keeping up with this series go get the previous issues at your LCS or through Comixology right now. With breath-taking art and a cool sci-fi universe waiting to be explored I’d really push anyone to pick this one up especially if you’re a fan of such series as Astro Boy or the Ancillary Justice/ Sword books.
Which books are you looking forward to this Wednesday, let us know in the comments……
