Marvel is in the midst of Secret Wars still, and even though we are a month or two in, there are still new series coming out each week, and this week we see Guardians of Knowere #1, and Hail Hydra #1. Image is quite quiet this week, but Valiant has the launch of their latest event, which you can read about below, so many great things to read!! The list below are this weeks comics which we thought are most essential though, so read below to see why you have to pick these up!!

So I’m not sure about you, but off the top of my head I am finding it very hard to remember what happened last issue!! Anyway, putting that aside, all that will be forgotten when I will be reading Hawkeye this week. In what has been the catalyst to so many unique ongoings in the Big Two, this final issue deserves all your time. If you fell off the series because of scheduling, this is the time for you to forget about that and enjoy this final issue, and it’s looking likely it will be Matt Fraction’s final Marvel issue too, at least for any near future. Let’s hope it is packed full of everything we want including some pizza and the dog!

The event of the year continues, well the event within the monthly anyway! The Darkseid war has been very intriguing so far and it’s looking likely it will continue being fantastic! Geoff Johns has been having so much fun with this series and it is looking likely to continue, Jason Fabok having come on to the book has been absolutely killing it and Darkseid War has truly given him the opportunity to showcase his significant talents. This issue is not to be missed as the showdown between Darkseid, Anti-Monitor and the Justice League gets ever closer!

Valiant really know how to do event comics, and this one is not to be missed! Most of Valiant’s big hitters will be in this mini-series so it has no reason not to be awesome! Newcomers to Valiant were introduced to the idea of the Geomancer in Jeff Lemire’s The Valiant, and this story will be taking a look at the death’s of all the main players in the Valiant Universe and what the Geomancer has to do with it, as the Eternal Warrior and the last surviving Geomancer go back in time to stop the apocalypse. If you are a fan of the Valiant Universe this is definitely a must buy this week!

Throughout its run, Silver Surfer has been a charming and fun series that acts as a send up to whimsical and bizarre sci fi adventures, most notably Doctor Who. Dan Slott has been writing some of the most inventive stuff I’ve seen from him while Allred has been cranking out his always golden standard of Kirby-esque goodness making for a roaring good series. While the series wrapped up its main storyline last issue, the series gets to stick around a little longer to show Norrin and Dawn’s last days. I’m curious to see how the light tone meshes with the much darker Secret Wars, though if Slott and Allred pull it off, this could mark a fantastic last hurrah for the criminally short series.

Originality is seldom found on the shelves of today’s comic book stands. Thankfully, The Divine treats us to a story that is not only unique, but beautifully written and illustrated as well. Tomer and Asaf Hanuka are two of the best artists out there today and their vision is incomparable. Once you partner their talents with Boaz Lavie, you have a comic that is sure to be Eisner nominated in the near future. The Divine follows Mark; a man that is struggling to keep his head above water and support his family. When a chance comes along to make a lot of money fast, he takes it without understanding the dangers that await him in the war torn region of South East Asia; he is hired to help detonate a bomb that will have huge implications on the inhabitants and their anger could be the death of him. Read The Divine! If you want to be blown away by remarkable artwork and deeply written intrigue, buy it without hesitation.

Secret Identities is a series that has really come into its own these past few issues, after a slightly shaky start, with brilliant characterization and good humour. I am super hyped over this conclusion of the first arc of this series and hope to see more of it in the future due to all of the plot threads that have been set up over this arc. Leading on from the ‘shocking twist’ at the end of the last issue (with my favourite splash page) I have no idea how this story will end but am eager to find out. Have the villains plans bit the dust? Will Gaijin betray her teammates? Will Rundown ever be integral to the plot? For answers to these and more tune into Secret Identities #6
Which books are you looking forward to this Wednesday, let us know in the comments……
