Geoff Keighley has provided more information about this bizarre story in the form of a Tweet posted Sunday evening.
Just interviewed Shawn Layden, new CEO of SCEA. He says The Last Guardian is in full development in Japan. Unequivocally. Full intvu tmrw.

We finally have information about The Last Guardian. Unfortunately, the information is a confirmation that the game has been cancelled.
IGN received a report that The Last Guardian had officially been cancelled and that the news had been disclosed at a internal Sony meeting.
The Last Guardian has been one of the most anticipated game since its announcement in 2009. However, the game was also suffering some development struggles that caused it to miss the original release date of 2011. The last information previously released came from Shuhei Yoshida in 2012, when he stated that The Last Guardian was still in development.
This is unfortunate, albeit expected news for the delayed game. Hopefully, Sony will release new information during E3 that explains the cancellation.
