Marvel Comics has announced that there will be a rebranding for one of their most popular and iconic characters this fall. Iron Man will give in to his ego and will become the Superior Iron Man. The new series will see Iron Man move to San Francisco with a very different look on life, as he is changed from the events of Original Sin.
The new book will be written by Tom Taylor, who is known to comic book fans as the writer of Earth 2 and Injustice: Gods Among Us for DC Comics. This book is his first for Marvel and represents a lot of faith and trust in him as he takes on one of their flagship characters. Joining him is artist Yildiray Cinar, another DC alumni, best known for his work on Firestorm: The Nuclear Men as part of the New 52. This book is easily the largest to be thrown in the direction of these two talents, who seem ready to rise to the occasion.
The book will see Tony Stark moving to San Francisco, trying to rebrand himself and expand. One of the early plots involves Tony creating a mobile app version of extremis, previously seen in the work of Warren Ellis when he repositioned the character not too many years ago. Extremis is also known to movie audiences for it’s presence in Iron Man 3. These early adventures will place Iron Man into conflict with Daredevil, who has also recently moved to San Francisco. Marvel is making a clear effort to widen their net and showcase more of the country in their books.
And yes, before anybody asks, it is Tony Stark under the armor. Tony Stark, not being controlled by anybody, not subject to some weird disease, or trying to be a jerk to push away the world. This is Tony Stark being Tony Stark, unapologetically. And it’s going to be superior to everything else.
