Thor: God of Thunder #24 Review

Written by: Jason Aaron

Art by: Agustin Alessio

Publisher: Marvel

This issue of Thor opens up with possibly my favourite ever summary of previous issues gone by in any comic I have ever read! It flowed so beautifully and really was a great opening to what was truly a great issue that was most pleasurable to read.

This issue was an Epilogue to the Last Days of Midgard story which has been happening in this book over the past couple of months. Epilogues are usually a tiny bit at the end of the arc of a comic, but Jason Aaron gives us a whole issue and it really felt like a great wrap up to what has been a great story. For those that were a fan of this series during the god butcher run but fell off it during the dark elves arc, I urge you to go pick up the past few issues as it has been a real return to form, and has really shown how good Thor can be when written so well.

In this issue we see the aftermath of the war between Roxxon and Thor, and Mr Roxxon, Dario Agger, tries to continue his manipulation of Broxton and successfully attempts to rid the town of Asgard, he also has his sights set on concurring the nine realms it seems (or ten depending on what happens in the Original Sin tie-in as has been teased). We also see glimpses of future Thor, King Thor, and his rebuilding of the world post his fight with Galactus. Speaking of Galactus we get a glimpse of what he is up to in the future to and it offers a nice tease as to what may happen in future issues.

What I have loved about this arc is the epicness and scale of the story, and it concludes with this, an actionless, dialogue driven issue which is just as strong as the previous action packed issues in this story. It doesn’t just throw away the past few issues as being done and forgotten about it shows us the consequences of the actions Thor took and the lasting impact it has on both Broxton and Asgard (and even Galactus, but we don’t know too much about this yet). It is really commendable how well Aaron writes this issue, and not only does he conclude the arc so well he also manages to establish a slight hint as to what might happen in future issues.

The writing is truly engaging and I have never read Thor written so well. But all of this and my interest in the book is even more so because of the way it looks. The writing and the art in this book goes hand in hand, the art is so detailed and realistic and really fits in well in this issue due to the lack of action. it really allows us to take a look at the characters and feel the emotions they are going through both in the humour and in the sadness.

I really can’t tell you enough how much I loved this issue, it was truly perfect. The art was phenomenal, the writing was so on point, and it perfectly concluded one arc while teasing upcoming story lines. If you aren’t doing so already, you should definitely be reading this series, you will not be disappointed!!
