Green Lantern Corps #33 Review

Written by: Van Jensen

Art by: Bernard Chang

Publisher: DC

Normally when reading a comic, I am impressed when there is great dialog and a good amount of action. I really didn’t think I could get more impressed by a different type of order. How does complete action and some script sound? I’ll tell you how it sounds, fraking amazing!

Green Lantern Corps #33 is a tad difficult to discuss, simply because Jensen gives us a major twist in the beginning of the issue. I won’t spoil it for anyone, but let’s just say that not everything or everyone is what it seems. Because of that statement, the issue blows up with constant attack and battle. However, Jensen did a terrific job at what conversation is involved is extremely important to the story line. Most known Green Lanterns get involved in this dire campaign and with that we get the comfort of knowing who and what type of abilities are involved with taking down the enemy. The second Hal Jordan pops in, he makes a funny quip, John Stewart is as serious as ever, and we even have Mogo doing what he can to assist!

Chang did fantastic work with keeping the characters looking realistic and clean with so many different action sequences. Of course whenever you are dealing with Lanterns, drawing items to fit their imaginations can get tricky. Chang makes it seem like a breeze. I never noticed a single lack of detail through out the entire issue.

I know a lot about the actual issue isn’t explained, that is something that you will have to find out for yourselves. The only other thing I will say is the beginning is not the only surprise. Jensen also decides to throw in something that I can’t analyse, and we won’t figure out until next time.

All in all, being a huge fan of reading/watching action, this was a perfect issue to pick up. Action, mystery, great art, and writing. What else could a guy ask for?
