Marvel Announces a New Line of Ultimate Books

Major Spoiler Warning: This article contains spoilers for the ending of Cataclysm: the Last Stand of the Ultimates.

As a part of their All New Marvel Now line up, Marvel comics has announced three new books that will take place in the Ultimate Universe. In the announcement, Brian Michael Bendis stated that Cataclysm is “so huge that it changes the entire landscape. It creates a place that demands a fresh start from everyone who survives it.” And, apparently, fan favorite character Miles Morales will not only survive this event, but will also remain in the Ultimate universe as opposed to transferring over to the 616 universe, as many fans predicted.

Miles Morales will star in the new series Miles Morales: Ultimate Spider-Man which will keep Brian Michael Bendis (Ultimate Spider-Man, The Avengers) on as the writer, and David Marquez (Ultimate Spider Man, Avengers AI) will also stay on as the artist. The most interesting thing about this is including the name Miles Morales in the title. Has Marvel realized how popular this character is, and this is an attempt to ensure people buy this book? Possibly.

The next book that was announced also stars Miles Morales, but in more of a team setting. This new book is called All New Ultimates. This series will feature a group of younger heroes, including characters like Miles Morales and Kitty Pride. The name of the book suggests that they will replace the current Ultimates team in the Ultimate universe, perhaps pointing to what their fate will be. This series will be written by Michel Fiffe (Copra, Savage Dragon) marking this author’s first appearance on a mainstream title. Art will be provided by Amilcar Pinna (Green Lantern: New Guardians, Superboy). This is also the only series for which a cover has been released.

The final book announced will come from Joshua Hale Fialkov (The Bunker, I Vampire) with art from Mario Guevara (Blackbeard, Solomon Kane) will be called Ultimate FF. It will stand for Future Foundation, and will star such characters as Sue Storm and Tony Stark, as well as a host of other super geniuses. Fialkov has also been quoted as saying that “One happens to be a psychopath.”

All in all, it’s good to know that the Ultimate Universe will remain intact. What are your opinions on these new announcements? Sound off in the comments!
