C.OW.L. #1

Written by: Kyle Higgins & Alex Siegel

Art by: Rod Reis

“Chicago Organized Workers League” – The world’s first Super-Hero Labour Union! Its 1962 Chicago, superpowered heroes having joined together to form an organisation post World War II, and with the defeat of the last known super-villain standing, the citizens of Chicago question the continued need for the organisation. The concept of super-heroes united with one  common theme is nothing new, but the concept of a union group is fascinating especially in the time period this has been established. The art in the first issue is also absolutely stunning. This book is definitely one to pick up this week.

Nightwing 30 CoverNightwing #30

Written by: Tom King, & Tim Seeley

Art by: Javier Garron, Jorge Lucas, Mikel Janin, & Guillermo Ortego

Will he die? Won’t he die? After the delay of Forever Evil (FE) #7, we finally found out last week the fate of Dick Grayson (or if you saw the Solicits for July 2014 before you read for FE #7 you would have guessed). Now we find out what has been happening with Dick and the Bat Family in the aftermath of FE. From the preview pages I have seen it looks like Alfred is not aware that Dick survived, so it will be interesting to see how this plays out especially as the entire Justice League and Lex Luthor, Catwoman etc all know his fate and it seems strange that this has been kept from Alfred. With Grayson launching as a solo series in July, this final issue of Nightwing is definitely one to check out.

Iron Fist the Living Legend #3

Written by: Kaare Andrews

Art by: Kaare Andrews

The new Iron Fist series by Kaare Andrew, has really been one of the stand out books so far of the new wave of All New Marvel Now books. Andrews on both words and art has full control of what he wants as the final product, and so far it has shown. In issue three, we have been promised a reveal (which is always fun) and we have also been promised Ninjas. To be honest I am not sure what isn’t to like about that in itself! The preview pages that have been released look special, and the way in which Andrew’s puts across the flashback sequences is like nothing I have witnessed in a comic. Keep it coming

This week’s honorable mention…

Trees #1

Written by: Warren Ellis

Art by: Jason Howard

Published by: Image Comics

This definitely sounds like an interesting premise. A science fiction epic, set 10 years after these things landed on earth like trees and did nothing just stand still on the surface exerting a silent pressure, what could they possibly want? Set in locations across the world, and literally introducing a whole new world, there are some peculiar things set up in this first issue but that’s what makes it so absorbing. Go get this.

Let us know in the comments what books you are most looking forward to this week!
