Pros
- Combat still holds up after all these years
- Visuals look great on PS4/PS5
- Interesting story
Cons
- Music is in no way remastered and is jarring (especially when entering battles)
- Hiding elements of the game that were in the original release behind a paywall is a poor choice
- The mazes, THE DAMN MAZES
- The overworld looking like a game board is jarring compared to titles like Persona 4, which is also an odd choice.
In Summary
While SMT 3 was a great game when it originally launched calling this a HD remaster is really false advertising in many ways. The game can be fun and the added voice-over is great, but the story starts VERY weird and the music isn’t remastered at all. If this game wasn’t the full price (and didn’t have a 70$ deluxe version with the same content in the original version), it would be worth a purchase. If you’re paying full price for it this is definitely a wait-and-see or rent it if possible.
