Entertainment Weekly reported earlier today that Tron: Legacy actor Matt Ward has been cast as the Green Arrow villain Simon Lacroix, a.k.a. Komodo. Following his debut in Green Arrow #17, Komodo was recently a major player in the “Outsider’s War” arc which preceded “Broken,” the most recent arc for the series and also the last for writer Jeff Lemire and artist Andrea Sorrentino.
The report goes on to mention that the show plans to introduce him early on in Season 3 in a villain-of-the-week type scenario, but notes that the show also plans tie Komodo into the overarching plot line of the season, which begs the question of the character’s origins. In the comics Lacroix was a protege of Oliver’s father, Robert Queen, who then betrayed him in order to acquire the fabled Arrow Totem of the Outsider’s Arrow Clan. Given the heavy involvement of the League of Assassins during the last season and the increasing possibility of Ra’s al Ghul being the main antagonist of the third season, writers Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg could easily add training with the League of Assassins into Lacroix’s backstory. With this Lacroix’s hatred of Oliver and Ra’s al Ghul’s desire to cleanse the world will go hand-in-hand very nicely and certainly pose a large threat to Oliver and the rest of the Arrow Team.
Ward is one of several to be added to Arrow‘s already stellar roster of actors and characters including Devon Aoki, and former Clark Kent, Brandon Routh. Let us know what you think of this new villain and be sure to stay tuned to We The Nerdy for more Arrow news and reviews.
