We The Nerdy’s E3 Predictions 2014

Every June thousands attend and many millions more now livestream the biggest gaming expo in the United States, the Electronic Entertainment Expo, better known as E3. As the event continues to grow more and more surprises are revealed each year. We at We The Nerdy have assembled some of our writers top predictions for the show below. Leave a comment to let us know your predictions! 

 

Microsoft Press Conference(June 9th 9am PST, 12pm EST) Predictions:

Eduardo Gueiros–

• Halo 5 trailer and more information on the game – I have a feeling it will be different from what we’re used to.
• Information on Gears of War development, although I doubt we’ll see a trailer. Maybe we will see characters or art in general revealed.
• Halo TV series trailer.
• Revelation of at least three new IPs.

Andrew Semicek–

• Lots of Halo, we will get more information on Halo 5 along with a gameplay video and finally get an announcement on Halo Master Chief edition.
• More Killer Instinct (season 2).
• Hopefully some new IPs from other first party developers.
• More on the Games for Gold overhaul and the Kinect less One.
• Unlikely to happen but I hope we hear more about the game sharing feature that was removed from the One’s OS and that it will be coming sooner than later. 

Kierra Prince–

• Huge focus on Halo 5.
• more on already announced titles like Sunset Overdrive.
• Probably more apps for Live will be announced.
• More on Twitch integration and probably new features.
• I expect their big, surprise announcement to be about a new Gears of War title. It was revealed Microsoft bought the rights and there’s been no news since. E3 would be the perfect time.
• New Battlefront trailer maybe?

Stephanie Hall-

• A Rare ip revived ala Killer Instinct from last year.
• Halo 5 trailer acompanied by info on its multiplayer.
• Announcement of Halo hd collection.
• Live demo of Sunset Overdrive.

Peter Friess-

• The kinect will be no more for the Xbox One.
• More news about the Halo 5 game and the remastered Halos.

John Newby–

• I think that Microsoft will announce the Call of Duty Modern Warfare during their conference because of the Activision deal.
• Microsoft will show test footage from Gears of War.

Mark-Anthony Smith–

•  As of yet unannounced AAA IP. A sci-fi, action-adventure, shooter similar to Mass Effect.
•  343 will unveil the first big details of Halo 5. It will be more of an open-world game, with multiple planets and solar systems. Microsoft will officially unveil and demonstrate their augmented reality Fortaleza glasses alongside Halo 5. Master Chief’s helmet HUD will now appear in the glasses, including Cortana. It will now look like Cortana is popping up in your living room while you shoot aliens.

Ryan Campbell-

• I think we will see some footage or trailer for the live action Halo series
• A new Crackdown game is announced, since everything else from those leaks a few months ago has panned out.

Topher Bostick–

• They will focus on the Xbox One system update with the new apps coming as well as new cool features.
• We will see the new Halo game footage.

Drew Freeman–

• A Crackdown sequel vertical slice.  I think it’s time for Crackdown to redeem itself after Crackdown 2!  With the insane popularity of open world games, as well as games that seamlessly integrate multiplayer, this franchise fits PERFECTLY into this generation.
• A trailer for the Ridley Scott Halo miniseries.  
• Gears of War
• Speaking of Halo, as one tends to do when referring to the Xbox, I think the alleged Master Chief Collection will be announced (if it’s real) and attached to that announcement will be the fact that purchasing this game gets you into the Halo 5: Guardians Beta.
• In keeping with talking about Betas (by the way, expect to continue seeing more of them) I believe we’ll finally hear WHEN the previously announced Fable Legends Beta will be.  What I think would be cool here is if it’s pushed to the front of the XBO dashboard and open to anyone with Xbox Live.

 

Sony Press Conference (5:30pm PST, 8:30pm EST) Predictions:

 

Eduardo Gueiros–

• Content from the Uncharted series will likely be revealed.
• Focus on VR components, possibly with demonstrations.
• New shooter IP.
• Last of Us 2 teaser to close the conference.

Andrew Semicek–

• Sony will tout the number of units sold from all three devices, saying the PS4 is leading the next generation of console sales.
• The Last Guardian will be confirmed for PS4 with a November 2014 launch.
• Driveclub will be shown and a demo will be available until the end of June.
• Crash Bandicoot is coming back and will be ready fall 2014.
• PS Now will be free for the first 3 months.
• PS Now will be available as of June 10th.
• You can now stream your Vita games to your PS4 in a reverse PS4 remote play, due end of the year.
• New PS4 with better wireless card and cooling features announced, will be the same price but bundled with Killzone Shadowfall or Knack.

Kierra Prince–

• Major focus on Uncharted 4 and possibly another Last of Us.
• More on The Order.
• Team Ico is rumored to be showing off stuff (possibly The Last Guardian redone for PS4) as is Quantic Dream.
• More info and possibilities with the camera.
• More news about the Sony streaming thing.
• Atlus will probably unveil Persona 5!
• More info about the long awaited Vita slim and perhaps a price drop on the Vita.

Stephanie Hall-

• Infamous for Vita announced either new game or port of 1 and 2.
• Uncharted 4 shown off in some form.
• Vita montage trailer including footage of games such as Gravity Rush 2 and Freedom Wars.
• Guerilla Games new rpg shown off.
• Project Beast trailer.

Peter Friess-

• More exclusives like a Uncharted and God of War for the PS4.
• More games displayed in general.

John Newby-

• Sony will show the new Uncharted.
• They will unveil a PS4 version of Syphon Filter from Sony Bend.

Mark-Anthony Smith-

• Uncharted 4 will be the graphical game of the show. The gameplay footage will be so impressive it will look like CGI.
• Naughty Dog announces a campaign will be 20 hours and incorporate RPG elements.
• Announces that Uncharted 4 begins a new trilogy.
• Sony demonstrates their VR headset with the next God of War.

Ryan Campbell-

• I’m calling it, were finally gonna hear from Last Guardian, it may be something small but something.
• Guerilla Games was trolling us and will show their new game at E3.

Topher Bostick-

• Sony will focus on Playstation Now.
• With all the next gen games getting pushed back, they might give us Uncharted 4 sneak peek.

Drew Freeman-

• Syphon Filter will be revealed in the form of a teaser. 
• GTA V gameplay demo.  We’ll see GTA running live on a PS4.
• For better or for worse, we’ll be seeing God of War at E3, I have a feeling this could go either way: Teaser or Live demo.
• Uncharted Story Trailer.  I think Uncharted will be there, but only in a trailer, maybe containing all in-game assets, but not live gameplay.
• Gran Turismo will be teased for the PS4.

 

Nintendo Press Conference (June 10th. 9am PST, 12pm EST) Predictions:

Eduardo Gueiros–

• For Nintendo’s sake, the revelation of a new IP (maybe a shooter).
• Next Zelda game teaser.

Andrew Semicek–

•  New Zelda for WiiU is announced.
• Nintendo’s Nearfield communication explained and shown.
• Metroid Prime: Insert Subtitle Here announced and will be the second cross platform game from Nintendo on both the 3DS and WiiU, will be coming early 2015.
• Luigi’s Mansion WiiU announced.

Kierra Prince–

• HUGE HUGE HUGE focus on Smash Bros.
• Hopefully a new Zelda will be announced that isn’t Hyrule Warriors.
• More on Gamecube controller integration and what other games may support it.
• Wishful thinking but I’m hoping they will reveal more about that X game that may be a Xenogears sequel.
• More on Bayonetta 2 and hopefully a real release date.
• Also a trailer for the Fatal Frame series!
• Potential for a new 3DS model to be revealed or at least a new color and perhaps even a price drop on the non XL model.
• Pokemon remakes for the 3DS will be discussed.
• Hopefully more on the long awaited Layton/Ace Attorney crossover.
• I also expect Atlus or Square Enix to reveal a new RPG.

Stephanie Hall–

• Gamecube for Wii U VC.
• Retro shows of teaser trailer for Wii U Metroid in the Vein of Prime series.
• Next Level Games new project announced and it’s a Wii U title.
• Captain Falcon announced for Smash Bros along with some sort of F Zero announcement probably GX for Wii U VC.
• A new project by Platinum games announced for Wii U Kamiya is involved.
• New 3rd party exclusive in the vein of Bayonetta 2 announced.
• Yarn Yoshi forgotten again.
• Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Saphire shown off in a short trailer.
• Wii U Zelda gets beautiful trailer grown men cry at its reveal.
• Hyrule Warriors gets a new trailer.
• X and Bayonetta 2 both get new trailers as well.
• One crazy prediction Star Fox for Wii U announced has online multiplayer.
• Miyamoto’s new ip revealed blows minds everywhere.
• Pokken Fighters announced made by Tekken Team at Namco.
• Smash Bros gets large focus.

Peter Friess–

• That they will only focus on the 3DS and get rid of the Wii U.

John Newby–

• I predict a Wii U version of Mario golf.
• I also predict a new Metroid game.

Mark-Anthony Smith–

• New Metroid
• Wii U pricecut

Ryan Campbell–

• Is it really a prediction to think Zelda WiiU will be debuted?
• Also I think we will see another yet to be released classic Nintendo title revealed (Metroid or StarFox).

Topher Bostick–

• Zelda. Please let there be a new Zelda game!
• I think Nintendo will bring something big to E3, but aside from adding new games to the Wii U’s list that will be about it.

Drew Freeman–

• I have only ONE thing I’d like to see from Nintendo that I think would be surprisingly progressive, yet still within their established wheelhouse.  They announced this Nintendo Figurine Program (NFP), so my idea is how they could best use something like this.  Essentially the gist of NFP is that you buy figurines that use Near Field Communication (NFC) much like Activision’s Skylanders games and Disney’s Infinity game.  In my mind, I would love to see a Wii U game that works a lot like the Toy Box Mode of Infinity in that you can create levels and mix-n-match characters and assets to create your own little game.  Imagine recreating the outside of the castle in Super Mario 64 and have all kinds of different enemies and use Link from Skyward Sword to run around in there!?  Players could create, share, and rate levels and creations.  Recreating classic Metroid levels and use Mario to speedrun through them!  The possibilities are, indeed, endless.  This is the only thing I’d really be interested in seeing from the Big N

Third Party Publisher Predictions (Conference times vary):

Eduardo Gueiros–

• More information and possibly some trailers for the new Telltale Games franchises (Game of Thrones and Tales from the Borderlands).
• Information about the next Star Wars game revealed.
• Teaser of the next Mass Effect installment (hopefully).
• Teaser of Borderlands 3 (hopefully!).
• Teaser of the next Fallout game (HOPEFULLY!!!).

Andrew Semicek–

• More Dragon Age
• Witcher 3 given a 15 minute gameplay demo
• Dying Light gets another extended gameplay demo
• Telltale shows off Tales from the Borderlands and a brief glimpe of Game of Thrones (next gen/PC exclusives).
• Ubisoft announces new IP to end their show.
• Battlefront 3 given full trailer and 2014 release.

Kierra Prince–

• I don’t think we’re going to get any major new title announcements but I think the biggest announcements will come from Team Ico, Atlus, and Quantic Dream. Atlus only ever released a trailer for Persona 5 and know by now that we’re eager for info and Team Ico has been silent for a long, long time. Quantic is already rumored to be working on a title and David Cage has popped up in news recently to discuss how he thinks games need to be closer to movies or whatever.
• Square Enix will probably have more info on FFXV and KH3 and possibly even Kingdom Hearts 2.5. I also expect them to address the fact that the 3DS is home to JRPG fans and reveal some titles there.

Stephanie Hall–

• Ubisoft announces A new ip.
• Star Wars Battlefront is shown off In live demo is everything we hoped it would be. Activision shows off new COD is coming to Wii U but no dlc for Wii U. Wishful thinking Skate 4 announced. Madden and Fifa announced with awkward sequence with big celebrities. Ubisoft press conference once again has an annoying awkward host.

Peter Friess–

• Activision will announce that this will be the last Call of Duty for a while.

John Newby–

• I think a new Skate will be announced with a crazy open world.
• I also think that Agent will somehow appear, because why not? I’m swinging for the fences.

Mark-Anthony Smith–

• Mass Effect 4 will be a timed Xbox One exclusive much like the first Mass Effect was.
• Star Wars Battlefront trailer.

Ryan Campbell–

• Mass Effect 4! Not sure if this is just my desperate wish but we have to be hearing from them soon. I guess some other stuff will be announced but…. Mass Effect!!!!

Topher Bostick: 

• We will probably get tons of info on Telltale’s new Borderlands game and they will also announce a new project coming or the future plans of the Walking Dead Season 3 or A Wolf Among Us Season 2.
