So, remember how adamant Microsoft was about never selling an Xbox One without a Kinect? Well that seems to have gone the way of the always online DRM! Starting on June 9th, you can purchase a new, sleek, Xbox One without the Kinect! No more motion controls! No more voice commands! No more of Microsoft spying on you whilst you play video games with no pants on!
Well, maybe not the last one. I don’t think they do that. In addition to this, we’ll also be seeing a price drop in the Xbox One system as a whole. As of June 9th, you’ll be able to pick up an Xbox One for just $399.99 – the exact same price as the Playstation 4, coincidentally. Turns out all it took was Phil Spencer, and, well, Microsoft started listening to the consumers! Who would have though it could be so easy?
Regardless, Spencer said that it “remains an important part of our [Microsoft’s] vision.” This likely just means that Kinect will still be supported, but for how much longer? That remains to be seen, but, in the meantime, it will definitely be interesting to see what this does to the demand for Xbox Ones in the console market. It’s likely that it will rise in the coming months, in keeping with the basic law of demand. Anyways, enough economics for now. Go buy yourself an Xbox One!
And no, this is not an advertisement. I’m just happy.
