E3 2014: Phantom Dust remake announced

Back during the original development of the original Xbox game from Microsoft Game Studio Japan, Phantom Dust was meant to bring the Japanese audience over to a Western console which had never been successful before. Before release, Microsoft dropped publishing the game outside of Japan leaving it up to Yukio Futatsugi to find a new publisher in the west. While Microsoft hasn’t worried about itself with releasing the Xbox One right away in Japan, Phantom Dust was still a cult hit releasing in the states under publisher Majesco.

Announced during the Microsoft E3 press conference Monday afternoon, Phantom Dust is back a decade later coming to the third Xbox. There was a cinematic pre-rendered trailer showing off the main character of the game waking in the middle of an empty city with another character across the courtyard, Freia. Not much was said about game and the logo simply said Phantom Dust leading me to believe the new game will be a remake as the story for the game didn’t leave the story open for continuation. We’ll report back with more media on the game as soon as it becomes available but for those who have been waiting for the live-action card battle game to return we can expect to see more from the Tokyo Game Show post the Xbox One’s release in early September.
